The Canon 5D Mark II is here and it’s available for pre-order from Amazon:
This looks like a simply spectacular camera, and likely the best DSLR Canon has ever produced.
It has a 22.3mp full-frame sensor AND the same 61-pound autofocus system from the upcoming 1DX. So essentially, it’s a 5D Mark II with better image quality, with 1D-series autofocus capabilities.
The video capabilities will likely be as spectacular as expected with 1080p recording at 30/25/24 fps, and 720p recording at 60/50 fps. Plus, there’s a microphone jack for audio monitoring, and multiple compression formats, including H.264.
The frame rate has been upped to 6fps, the LCD has been upgraded to 3.2″, dual card slots, and improved weather sealing.
Most important for me, there is a silent mode, which could make this a pretty decent street camera, though I prefer my iPhone 4S and Fuji X100 for that stuff.
I can’t afford a 5D Mark III, otherwise I’d be buying one right now, especially since I could flip it on eBay for a higher price if I didn’t like it.
Once again, here are the pre-order linkes:
